Dr. Jay Strack teaches our students that they will be the same ten years from now as they are today except for the books they read, the places they go, the people they meet, and the things they memorize. Lion Academy provides students year round opportunities that help them read the right books, go to the right places, meet the right people, and memorize the right things. Students in the academy are given the opportunity to travel the world and to meet real world changers that hold to a biblical worldview. Memorization of key biblical passages is an integral part of the academy experience.
At the beginning of each school year, students make application to enter the Lion Academy. Students must be entering the 9th grade in order to participate. Each applicant will participate in a professional interview as a part of the application process. Lion Academy students file reports in order to keep up with their development. This system of accountability is based on credits received as they turn in evidence of their participation in the different activities. As students accumulate credits, they become eligeable to participate in the Student Leadership University program that takes place in the summer.
Students in the academy are afforded a variety of opportunities throughout the year to develop as leaders. These opportunities are local, national, as well as international in scope. Academy students in the past have attended events such as the John Maxwell Conference for local business professionals. They participate in Leadership Rocks each year with other leadership students from around the state. Academy students have even been invited to participate in one of the largest creative pastor training conferences in the nation. Faith Lion Academy students have taken part in many meaningful moments from laying wreaths at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetery to walking the beaches of Normandy. They have walked through the war memorials in Washington D.C. and acknowledged that freedom comes with the greatest price. Lion Academy students have heard lectures from royalty in England, professional athletes, powerful politicians, self-made millionaires, and ordinary people that have been used in extraordinary ways to make an eternal difference.
